Called to Create

Innovating in a Downturn
Movement Mortage

Is anyone brave or foolish enough—or both—to risk starting a new business when more and more people are losing their jobs and tightening their belts? In this session, we feature the story of Movement Mortgage, a company that was born out of the housing crash of 2008. When everyone was selling off or struggling to stay afloat, founder Casey Crawford felt even more emboldened to step into the fray with a new kind of mortgage company.

Discussion Questions

Creating in the Unknown

It’s not a question of if the economy will stall or even falter. But rather it’s a question of when. And yet, God gives us himself so we can see beyond our circumstances. We can fix our sights on him.

  • Are you facing uncertainty or brokenness in your entrepreneurial journey? What promises has God given you that you can hold on to in this unpredictable season?

  • What storylines from this video are a source of encouragement as you face the unexpected and create in the unknown?

Make the Vision Clear

Good leaders often have a clear vision that they’re diligent about communicating and repeating often with others. In Habbakuk 2:2, the Lord tells Habbakuk, “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads.”

  • Is your vision for your company clear to your employees? Are those who work for or with you aligned in your vision? If not, how can you reinforce your entrepreneurial vision in a way that resonates with others?

Creating Cultures

In this video, Mike Brennan, President of Movement Mortgage talks about how, “Culture isn’t about words, it’s about actions. A lot of people will talk culture, but it will be an empty statement.”

  • Is there a gap in credibility between what you say and how you act? What are tangible actions you can take to back up your vision that will create a healthy and vibrant culture?
