Called to Create

A Generation of Solution Providers
Kamau Gachigi

In this session, Henry Kaestner, Founder of Faith Driven Entrepreneur and Investor, shares about how God’s call to create in our lives and work isn’t just an invitation to innovate a new product or start a new company. God’s call for us to create is his desire for us to start something with him. This video features the story of Gearbox, the business incubator founded by Kamau Gagichi in the 'Silicon on the Savannah.' Gearbox is all about supporting entrepreneurs as they take an idea, develop a prototype, and test it in the market.

Discussion Questions

Responding to God’s Invitation

In 1 Corinthians 3:9, Paul tells us that “we are God’s fellow workers.” God’s call to create in our lives and work isn’t just an invitation to innovate a new product or start a new company. It’s an invitation that reflects his desire for us to start something with him.

  • How have you partnered with God to create and grow your business?

  • Do you see your business a part of God’s redemptive plan for the earth?

Changing Mindsets

Sometimes our country or economy might be stuck and God is calling us to transform the city and marketplace around us through our business.

  • Is there an industry mindset, expectation, or barrier that is preventing you from experiencing the full purpose that God has for you?

  • How might you grab hold of this challenge and use it as an opportunity to innovate and problem solve?

Using Your Gifts to Empower Others

God has gifted us with the ability to see needs and fill them in innovative ways that can serve our employees, our customers, and even our communities. While it’s tempting to use these gifts to elevate ourselves, God has called us to create solutions that empower all of humanity.

  • Where in the Gearbox story do you see the leaders using their gifts and businesses to elevate others?

  • In what ways can your work be a unique gift to your community? How have you seen other business leaders use their call to create to empower others?

Ideas to Explore the Mark Further

Looking for some practical ways to put this mark into action? Here are some ideas that can help you develop an even greater understanding of Called to Create.

  • At Faith Driven Entrepreneur we talk a lot about creating culture, but what does the bible have to say on this and how do we impact culture? Andy Crouch is a Partner of Theology at Praxis and wrote Culture Making: Recovering Our Calling to Create, in it he unpacks the complexities of how culture works and gives us tools for cultivating and creating culture.

  • The creative process can be difficult to navigate on your own and with minimal incentive. An accelerator or incubator program can be a great place to develop your ideas further. See our list of top capacity builders here.

  • Check out Jordan Raynor’s children’s book The Creator in You, which gives a fresh perspective on God’s creation story for children.
