Podcast Episode 15 - Are We Setting the Right Example? 50-70 Hour Work Weeks

Subscribe on ITunes or Other

This week the team tackles the concept of the 40 hour work week. As entrepreneurs, we are wired to work, and work a lot.  It’s almost romantic to admit that we work 50-70 hours per week (or much much more :).  But at what cost? We must recall that there are at least two groups of people whom we affect with how much we work: family/spouse, and employees/teammates.

The Moral Mattress Kings of Denver

A "restful buying experience."

Few American consumers would ever think to describe mattress shopping this way. In fact, if you have been mattress shopping recently, restful is probably the last word that comes to mind.

"This is one of the sleaziest industries in the world," says business owner Ethan Rietema. "Customers are treated so poorly. Stores beat you up, trying to get as much money as they can, but they couldn't care less if you get the right bed."

Rietema and Steve Van Diest, both former campus ministers, are bringing rest—and integrity—back to a business largely devoid of it.

Hope International - A US Entrepreneur making a huge Global Impact for the Kingdom

I will never forget the time when I first came to know about Hope International.  God had started to bless Bandwidth with more success, and I knew that I wanted to get more serious about giving.  I became fascinated with the concept of microfinance.  God had placed a passion in me for marketplace transformation and I knew that entrepreneurship could create great opportunity for poverty alleviation in the US, but especially overseas.   Mohammed Yunus' Book, "Banker to the Poor" had just come out and I couldn't get enough.  I read everything I could find on MFI and eventually came across a podcast from Kiva that shared the stories of their member partners and what they did with MFI and where they did it.

Martin Luther King Jr. on Work

This short speech (about 3 minutes) by Martin Luther King Jr. inspires me each and every day to work for the glory of God and not for the glory of man.

In 3 minutes, I feel that MLK really sums up the basics of faith and work integration.  In all honesty, I try to come back and listen to this 20+ times a year.  I am looking for a place to hang the quote on the wall, but MLK's voice is so much more inspiring than the written quote.  He was one of a kind with regards to motivation for the gospel.
