Practical Tips for an ERG
— by James Bruyn
As your ERG evolves here are a few practical tips
Keep a prayer journal
God hears and answers prayers!
There will be days when you and your community will be discouraged – having a journal of answered prayers, and referring to that during those times will encourage you to press on.
Don’t expect perfect/regular attendance
People go on vacation, people have meetings that will conflict with the time you gather.
View your weekly reminders as ministry not announcements
Make your reminder unique every week.
Include a passage of Scripture in your reminders – this may be the only Scripture some people on your mailing list read.
Include a word of encouragement or something to make people smile.
Remember form follows function
Always look for innovative ways to fulfill the mission.
Hold forms that work loosely and be willing to change old forms to new forms whenever it serves the function.
Be flexible, open and patient – allowing God to lead!
Vision and Mission leak
keep discussing the ‘why’ with people to keep your leadership team committed.
Value each person’s unique contribution
People who feel valued and connected are the best ambassadors for your faith community.
Your faith community will be unique
Your company is unique.
The people on your team are unique.
Keep praying
This faith community started as a result of God answering your prayers, and the prayers of others.
This faith community will only continue as you and others continue to pray.
With permission, share prayer and praise requests with friends outside the community so that they can continue to pray for your group.
Network with other group leaders, and pray together as group leaders for each other.

Rejoice in the Lord always and again I say rejoice!
